Steve Wenzloff

President, Steve Wenzloff Design

Steve Wenzloff has over three decades of experience in the golf industry, spanning golf course construction, design/build projects, new course development, renovations, and the enhancement of tournament venues around the world. Throughout his career, Steve has traveled around the world, gaining firsthand experience with golf courses designed by many of the world’s leading architects and across a wide range of environments.

For the past 29 years, Steve worked with the PGA TOUR, beginning as a design liaison for new Tournament Players Club (TPC) facilities. In this role, he collaborated closely with architects, player consultants, contractors, and clients throughout the development of new TPC properties. Over the last 18 years, serving as Senior Vice President of Design Services and Player Liaison, his work focused on implementing competitive modifications at existing PGA TOUR venues, and evaluating new venues as potential host sites, including recommending competitive enhancements.

His role also extended to working with TOUR-venue host organizations to strengthen their commercial opportunities. Steve’s experience spans the majority of current PGA TOUR venues, as well as Olympic venues, Presidents Cup and World Cup sites, and TPC properties worldwide.

Championship Golf at the Highest Level

TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm

Tournament Golf at the Professional Level

Steve’s design input has shaped many of golf’s most celebrated events, challenging the best players in the world at the highest level of competition. His work has influenced venues for The Presidents Cup, The World Cup, World Golf Championships, THE PLAYERS, the TOUR Championship, and the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

He has also helped define the competitive stage for numerous current and former PGA TOUR tournaments, including the BMW Championship, Travelers Championship, Rocket Mortgage Classic, Valspar Championship, Wyndham Championship, ZOZO Championship, Sentry Tournament of Champions, Baycurrent Classic, and many others.

TPC Expertise

A cornerstone of Steve’s career has been his leadership in TPC Network projects, where the business of golf course ownership is thoughtfully integrated with the demands of hosting professional competition. His experience includes planning and design coordination for TPC Louisiana, TPC San Antonio, TPC Twin Cities, TPC Colorado, TPC Myrtle Beach, and TPC Wakefield Plantation.

His work also includes major renovations at TPC Sawgrass with Pete Dye, TPC Potomac with Jim Hardy, and TPC Wisconsin with Steve Stricker.

Architectural Collaborations

Steve has worked alongside some of the game’s most respected architects and TOUR members. His collaborations include projects with Pete Dye, including TPC Louisiana alongside Steve Elkington and Kelly Gibson, as well as Nemacolin Woodlands Mystic Rock, Crooked Stick, and Harbour Town. He has worked with Jack Nicklaus at Dove Mountain and Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea; Arnold Palmer and Tom Lehman at TPC Twin Cities; Hale Irwin at TPC Wakefield Plantation (now Country Club at Wakefield Plantation); Tom Fazio and Lanny Wadkins at TPC Myrtle Beach; and D.A. Weibring at TPC Las Colinas and TPC Deere Run.

International Reach

Steve’s work has taken him around the world, contributing to golf course design and TPC projects in China, Korea, Japan, Kuala Lumpur, Australia, South America including Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, as well as Mexico and Canada. His international experience has focused on adapting PGA TOUR championship standards to local cultures, landscapes, and playing environments.

Agronomic Experience

Throughout his career with the PGA TOUR, Steve has had the opportunity to work closely with many of the game’s leading agronomists. These collaborations, combined with his own studies in soils, turfgrass, and horticulture, have provided him with valuable, practical insight into the agronomic factors that influence course performance at the highest level.

Steve's Career Journey

After nearly three decades working at the highest levels of professional golf with the PGA TOUR, Steve Wenzloff chose to step into a more focused chapter of his career. Having spent years shaping championship venues, collaborating with the game’s most respected architects, and supporting the world’s best players, Steve retired from the TOUR in late 2025 with a clear vision for what would come next.

In 2026, Steve launched Steve Wenzloff Design, bringing his experience to a select group of clients worldwide. The firm’s purpose is to apply decades of PGA TOUR insight to help courses reach their full potential, whether preparing to host professional or elite amateur competition, undertaking renovations to elevate the player experience from both a design and agronomic perspective, or collaborating on new course designs built to challenge the game’s best while delivering lasting value to members, guests, and ownership.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and is a member of the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) and the USGA.

Away from the drawing board, Steve values time spent outdoors with his family and cherishes every opportunity to play with his grandchildren. This appreciation for the land and for lasting experiences is reflected in his work—courses designed to be enjoyed today and respected for generations to come.
